The two winners of the 2007 prize were Lena Rosen and Kristin Pufpaff.

Lena is a junior from Brattleboro, Vermont. Lena worked as a volunteer at the Cornell Sheep Farm after her freshman year and part-time during her sophomore year. She had a full-time paid position at the farm the summer after her sophomore year and continued working at the farm part-time through her junior year. In the fall semester of her junior year, Lena was enrolled in Animal Science 265 (Horses) and she completed Animal Science 380 (Sheep) this past spring. She has achieved excellent academic performance while enrolled in a pre-veterinary curriculum. This summer, Lena will work with Dr. Ludwig Siefert, in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda in East Africa. His main work involves tracking large predators in Uganda such as lions, leopards and hyenas to learn about their behavior. She plans to become a large-animal veterinarian.

Kristin is a sophomore from Nashville, MI where she grew up on a sheep farm. During the summer after her freshman year, she worked for Chapman University canoeing around Northern Wisconsin counting and observing loons. In the fall semester of her sophomore year, Kristin was enrolled in Animal Science 265 (Horses) and she completed Animal Science 380 (Sheep) this past spring. As a Cornell Presidential Scholar, she has worked on immunology of sheep with Dr. Jerrie Gavalchin using animals at the Cornell Sheep Farm. She will spend the summer of 2007 at Cornell continuing her research. She has achieved excellent academic performance while enrolled in a pre-veterinary curriculum. She plans to become a large-animal veterinarian.

Lena and Kristin are shown receiving their awards from Dr. Mike Thonney, Director of the Cornell Sheep Program. In addition to the $500 prize, Lena and Kristin were each awarded a Cornell Sheep Program Lap Robe embroidered with their names and the year of the award.
