"Your Guide to Starting, Building or Expanding a Small Business" is available from the The US Small Business Administration (SBA) from the agencies regional offices in Syracuse (315-471-9393, Albany (518-446-1118) and Elmira (607-734-8130.)  This small business resource guide addresses how to start a small business and how to raise money to support it. It contains contacts for major state and local organizations  and agencies that provide assistance to small business start ups as well as established small businesses.  Useful booklet for ag business/farming start ups, businesses considering divirsification and business planning for established small ag businesses.

This SBA District also has a "New Business Starter Packet", which is sent out free of charge to anyone looking to start a new business. It includes the Resource Guide, of course, and a many other resources such as information on Women's Business Centers, SCORE, and New York State Assistance. Check out the website at http://www.sba.gov/ny/syracuse. In addition staff are on hand M-F 8-4:30 and can be reached via walk-in, phone (315-471-9393), or email (Cathy.Pokines@sba.gov or Dale.Sturdevant@sba.gov).
