Andrea Walsh Memorial Raise-A-Lamb Project Application
Empire Sheep Producers Association, Inc.

Application

The Andrea Walsh Memorial Raise-A-Lamb Project is sponsored by the Empire Sheep Producers in memory of Andrea Walsh, daughter of Tom and Jean Walsh. The project provides animals through application by 4-H club members who might not otherwise be able to afford lambs.

The Walsh family has raised purebred Suffolks in New York for many years. Andrea was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor in June of 1997, and died on October 1, 1997. During Andrea's illness and for an extended period thereafter, sheep producers in New York and New England gave the family the greatest support and consideration. It would be impossible to stress too heavy what that consideration meant to a bereaved family. The Project is particularly appropriate because Andi was a Registered Nurse whose specialty was working with disturbed children. She worked at Ramapo Anchorage Camp and also at the House of the Good Shepherd. She graduated with a teaching degree from Oneonta State College, but found her true niche working as an RN with disturbed children. Andrea made friends wherever she went with her bright, cheerful personality, sense of humor and great personal integrity. She was always a willing helper with the sheep and lambs and wanted to know as much as she could about every subject that came her way. Her interests were completely diverse, and she loved traveling. To know her was to own a personal ray of sunshine. The Andrea Walsh Memorial Raise-A-Lamb Project carries on her work with children and animals.
